Rights & licensing
Using our photography, footage and design
Everything we shoot and make stays ours unless a signed agreement says otherwise. Licensing it is straightforward and usually quick — most requests are answered the same day. This page exists so nobody has to guess what it costs.
Asking is free and fast
Email info@krisbarnes.org with a link to the work and one line about where you want to use it. Press, students, charities and anyone crediting us properly on an unpaid post: ask anyway — the answer is very often yes, at no charge.
What always needs a license: any commercial use, any paid advertising, anything appearing on a product or in print, and any use that has had our credit or watermark removed.

Commissioning new work?
This page is about licensing something we’ve already made. If we’re making something for you and you’d rather we weren’t credited on it, that’s a different question with its own prices — it’s all on the credit & attribution page.
Credit and metadata
Where a credit line appears with the work, please leave it there, and please don’t strip the information embedded in the file. Removing it is treated separately from the license itself under US copyright law, so it is worth a moment’s care even on a use you have paid for.
If you’ve had a notice from us
It will carry a reference number and a link to a page where you can see exactly what we found and respond. There are four honest answers and we mean all of them: you hold a license, you’d like one, you have taken the work down, or we have got this wrong. The last one happens — an agency supplied the file, the account isn’t yours, the use was permitted — and telling us closes the file.
We would rather license the work than argue about it, and we will never ask for more than the rates on this page for the usage we found.
Reporting someone else’s work
If you own something that has appeared on one of our sites without permission, email info@krisbarnes.org with the work, where it is on our site, and your contact details, and we will deal with it quickly. The same courtesy we are asking for.
