Credit & attribution

Why we ask for a credit

Because the work pays for itself twice — once when you pay for it, and once when somebody sees it and asks who made it. That second half is priced into our rates, which is part of why they are what they are. If you’d rather we weren’t named, that’s completely fine. It’s just priced separately, so it’s never a negotiation in the middle of a project.

The questions people actually ask

Do we have to credit you on every post?

No. One credit where the work lives — a caption, a footer, an end card — is all we're asking for. We're not going to audit your feed.

Can we say we made it in-house?

That's the no-credit option. It's a normal thing to need and there's nothing awkward about asking — it's just priced, because the attribution is half of what we get out of the job.

Our client doesn't want it made public.

That's the portfolio embargo. It's priced above no-credit deliberately: not being named costs us something, but not being able to show the work at all costs us more.

We already paid for it. Isn't it ours?

The finished work is licensed to you in full, and that license is in your agreement. This page is about something narrower — whether we can say we made it.

Can we decide later?

Yes. Ask us to take something down and we will. Adding an option after signing is quoted the same way it would have been at the start — the price doesn't go up for asking late.

Whichever option applies to you is written into your agreement, so this page and your contract always say the same thing. Looking to license work we already made instead? That’s on the rights page. Anything else, ask before you sign — info@krisbarnes.org.
