Course

The First Shoot

$49

A starter course in cinematography, taught on the kit I actually shoot with and on the phone in your pocket. Settings, sound, light and frame — in the order of how badly they hurt you when they are wrong. Twenty-one short lessons, four assignments, and you finish with one video you are willing to show someone.

  • 21 lessons across 4 modules, ~2h 10m
  • An assignment after every module
  • Taught on a Sony FX3 and on a phone, side by side
  • The settings card, the shot list and the gear sheet included
  • The Shoot Day Checklist — the 33-point list I run on real jobs

What’s inside · 4 pieces

  • Module 01 — The camera stops being scary

Frame rate, shutter, aperture and ISO set once. Reading exposure with zebras and false color instead of guessing at a screen. 5 lessons, ~32 min.

  • Module 02 — Sound

The module everyone skips. Mic distance, levels you can fix later, killing the room, and the backup track that saves an edit. 5 lessons, ~28 min.

  • Module 03 — Light you already have

No lighting kit required. Direction, soft versus hard, a repeatable one-light setup, and what to buy first when you do buy. 5 lessons, ~30 min.

  • Module 04 — Frame it, shoot enough, cut it

Composition that holds, shooting for the platform, a shot list that means you leave with coverage, and a first assembly. 6 lessons, ~40 min.

Questions, answered

Instantly. The moment your payment clears you land on a download page with every file, and the same links hit your inbox. Nothing ships, nothing is on backorder.

The sound and LUT packs are plain .wav and .cube files — they drop into Premiere, DaVinci Resolve, Final Cut, CapCut, or anything else that reads standard formats. The guides are PDFs.

Yes. Every pack comes with a license to use it in unlimited personal and paid client projects. What you can't do is resell or redistribute the raw files themselves — the full terms are on the license page.

No. When a pack gets new files you get them free, at the same download link. One purchase, permanently.

No. Everything in the shop is a one-time payment. There's no recurring charge and nothing to cancel.

No — every product is delivered instantly, so all sales are final. Read what's included before you buy, and email me first if you're unsure whether a pack fits your setup. I'd rather answer a question than take a sale that isn't right.

That I will always fix. Email info@krisbarnes.org with your order email — broken file, dead link, wrong format, whatever it is — and I'll sort it personally, usually the same day.
